Lecture: 19th-century Islamic visions of an Abbasid Golden Age: Strategies for claiming the Modern

The Department of History at Uppsala University is pleased to announce a lecture by Monica Ringer, Professor of History at Amherst College.  

The lecture is entitled: “19th-century Islamic visions of an Abbasid Golden Age: Strategies for claiming the Modern.”  

It will be held on Monday, Dec. 3 at 15:15 in Engelska Parken 1:0062. Students are also welcome.

Prof. Monica Ringer has written extensively on Islamic and Zoroastrian modernist trends, Education in Qajar Iran, and Ottoman literature, among other topics. Her latest book is Pious Citizens: Reforming Zoroastrianism in India and Iran (Syracuse University Press, 2011).
